On April 17, we will lift our voices as future-physicians to Congress for the kind of healthcare system we want to work in, and the health care we want for our patients, families, & communities.
What's this?
Future Physicians for Change will provide training with key experts, background info, and connect you with our Action Committees & Teams, who will lead the way and help you lift your voice with your U.S. Senators & House Representatives. A schedule is forthcoming — with some pre-convention collaboration, training, scheduling Capitol Hill legislative visits, and more.
Why does this matter?
Whether this is your first legislative visit or you’re fluent in activism, our Advocacy Day is for you. Lifting your voice to your congress members isn’t just an important practice in democracy – it’s a chance for you to advocate for the issues you care about, and ensure they hear from more than just corporate lobbyists and special interest groups.
During our Advocacy Day you will build key skills that will serve you throughout your career. We will prepare you for your meetings with congressional officials, so that you can feel comfortable in your advocacy skills; we can even connect you with an AMSA Advocacy Coach if you’d like.
As future physicians, advocating for our patients and communities is a responsibility that we should exercise throughout our careers. The power and the privilege that comes from donning our white coats gives us a unique opportunity to influence policymakers. Since health policy is so broad, our work doesn’t stop here – having relationships with the offices of our elected officials throughout our training and our careers will help to advance the issues we care about.
