Leaders, educators, changemakers of all stripes — we want to recognize and celebrate the ones making a difference — the ones making our world a better, more equitable and just place through medicine. 

AMSA community, nominate freely — we want to hear from you. Submit candidates you feel have worked to change the face of medicine for the better. Award winners in the following six categories will be acknowledged and celebrated during our FP4Change Awards Ceremony (catch a glimpse via this slideshow).

Leadership Excellence

The James Slayton National Award for Leadership Excellence is named in honor of a former AMSA/AMSA Foundation National President whose exemplary achievement in leadership and management foster the development of exceptionally inspiring physician leaders.

AMSA’s National Golden Apple Award for Teaching Excellence recognizes the contributions of a medical school professor who has made a significant impact,  improvements or advancements in medical education.

Chapter Success

The Paul R. Wright Chapter Success Award recognizes chapters that support AMSA’s mission and are dedicated to inspiring future physician leaders, whether through local events, programming activities, leadership development initiatives or calls for action.

LGBTQ+ Health Achievement

The AMSA LGBTQ Health Achievement Award is given to recognize a medical school, student group, or individual student for exemplary achievement in advocating the inclusion of LGBT health issues or concerns within their medical school and centers.

The AMSA Racial Justice in Medicine Award will honor an individual who has done unparalleled work and seeks to mitigate health disparities that exist in our nation.

Outstanding Student Activist

The Paul Ambrose Outstanding Student Activist Award, to whose memory this award is dedicated, was one of AMSA’s most prominent and accomplished national leaders. As AMSA’s Legislative Affairs Director in 1995, Paul created the AMSA Political Leadership Institute, advancing health policy and advocacy education for medical students.
